Desk Report :
Shakib Al Hasan is playing regularly in T20 and T10 franchise tournaments abroad. But he has been away from international cricket for 13 months. He is not getting the opportunity to play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at home. Will this situation continue? Former footballer Aminul Haque believes that the state will decide about Shakib.
Everyone knows that the reason for Shakib’s inability to return to the country is political. His identity as a parliamentarian in the Awami League government that fell on August 5 has acted as the main influencer here. His name has been mentioned in various cases including the murder of a garment worker and a check fraud case. National elections will be held in February next year. The elected party will take over the country’s governance. In response to the question of whether Shakib will have a chance to return to the country if BNP comes to power, Aminul said in an interview given to Ajker newspaper the day before yesterday, ‘What you are talking about is that since a state case has been filed against Shakib, it is because he is one of the 300 MPs of the illegal government. When the dictatorial government went against the people of Bangladesh and killed and disappeared people, one in 300 people will have to take responsibility for it. There is no chance of denying this. However, the state will decide on this.’
Apart from being a former footballer, Aminul also has a political identity. This former footballer of the country is a potential candidate of BNP for the Dhaka-16 constituency in the national parliament elections. Like other politicians in the subcontinent, he has also been subjected to various attacks. Although this former footballer of the country does not support these issues at all. Aminul told Ajker newspaper, ‘As a former national footballer, a former national captain, what I have faced politically has plagued me with lawsuits and attacks at every moment. I have been physically abused. I have been shot. I have been bloodied. I never want and do not support such a situation to happen to a player in any way. A person’s democratic right is that there can be differences of opinion. If I can successfully complete my work with my opinion, I will do it to the best of my ability. But I never support any kind of oppression or torture against me or anyone else because of my differences of opinion, and there will be no such oppression or torture in the future.’
Shakib last played in the Bangladesh jersey in October last year. That Test match against India was held in Kanpur. Before that Test, Shakib announced his retirement from international T20s. He wanted to play the last Test of his career in Mirpur. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) initially announced the team against South Africa with him. But due to various complications, the star all-rounder of Bangladesh had to return home despite coming close to home. In an interview given to Cricbuzz a few days ago, Shakib said that he wants to play the last match of his career in Mirpur.
